CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT * AAL 1998: Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia The 1998 Australasian Association for Logic Conference will be held at Macquarie University, in Sydney, from Friday July 10 to Sunday July 12, 1998. The AAL holds an annual conference in the southern winter of each year, bringing together logicians from backgrounds in Philosophy, Mathematics and Computer Science, from Australasia and around the world. Distinguished visitors in the last few years have included Brian Chellas, Mic Detlefsen, J. Michael Dunn, Mark Lance and Ed Zalta. The conferences are known for their informal nature, lively discussion and diverse topics. * In Memory of Richard Sylvan Richard Sylvan (formerly Richard Routley) was an unequalled figure in the community of logic in Australasia. His untimely death in 1996 has robbed us of an original thinker, who contributed many significant ideas not only to logic, but also to metaphysics and environmental philosophy. In the 1998 conference we will hold a special session in his memory. We invite all those interested in his work (in relevant logics, logic of significance, Meinong and existence, vagueness, among many other areas) to submit papers which examine and discuss his contribution to logic. * Paper Submissions We invite all interested parties to submit papers for presentation at the conference. The deadline for submission is *April 24 1998*. (If you submit earlier, you may be notified of the acceptance of your paper earlier if that is required). Send an abstract of no more than one page to Greg Restall: grestall@ocs.mq.edu.au School of History, Philosophy and Politics, Macquarie University, Sydney 2109, Australia. Please send your submission as either text, TeX or HTML by email, or a hardcopy by post. With the submission, please indicate whether you would like a 45, 60 or 75 minute timeslot for your presentation. (Presenters will be expected to leave *at least* one third of their timeslot for discussion after each paper.) * Registration Details The conference will run some sessions in parallel with the 1998 Australasian Association for Philosophy Conference, which will be held from July 5 to July 10. The Women in Philosophy Conference will also be held concurrently with the AAP conference during this time. Details of Accomodation, Child-Care facilities, and registration costs will be organised jointly between the three conferences, and details will be posted on the AAL98 Webpage: http://www.mq.edu.au/~phildept/aal98/ as they are finalised. * Further Enquiries For any further information, contact the conference organiser, Greg Restall, at grestall@ocs.mq.edu.au.
