----------------------------------------------------- Call for Papers International Workshop Acquiring and representing multilingual, specialized lexicons: the case of biomedicine May 23, 2006, Genoa, Italy http://www.lrec-conf.org/lrec2006/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=6 (LREC 2006 preconference workshop) ----------------------------------------------------- Deadline for Abstract Submissions: February 20th 2006 Submission by email to: Pierre Zweigenbaum ----------------------------------------------------- Background The development of general, multilingual lexicons and dictionaries has received much interest (see, e.g., projects EuroWordNet or Papillon). In contrast, less attention has been given to multilingual lexicons and dictionaries in specialized domains, where the focus has been put instead on terminological products such as thesauri and classifications. The need nevertheless exists for large, shared, multilingual lexicons and dictionaries which support natural language processing in specialized domains. Medicine, with terminologies ranging above a million terms, is a case in point: only few specialized lexicons exist for this domain, English being as usual the best served. This workshop will examine how specialized lexicons, in particular in biomedicine and beyond English, can be acquired, represented, and linked across languages. It is endorsed by the European Network of Excellence "Semantic Interoperability and Data Mining in Biomedicine" (NoE 507505), Workpackage 20, "Multilingual Medical Lexicon". Topics for submission will include the following, non-exhaustive list: - building specialized lexicons - standards for sharing multilingual lexicons - methods for acquiring and cross-linking specialized lexicons of different languages - specific issues in representing specialized, technical lexicons (e.g., neoclassical compounds, Latin words, etc.) While medicine is expected to be the main focus of the workshop, work on other specialized domains is welcome too. ------------------------------------------------------ Papers We expect short papers of max 3000 words describing research addressing one of the above topics, to be submitted as .doc or PDF documents by email to the following address: pz@biomath.jussieu.fr. The final papers should not have more than 6 pages. ------------------------------------------------------ Important Dates Deadline for submission: 20/2/2006 Notification: 15/3/2006 Final version: 7/4/2006 ------------------------------------------------------ Location Magazzini del Cotone Conference Center, Genoa, Italy.
