CALL FOR PAPERS 23rd International Conference on Data Engineering April 17-20, 2007 The Marmara Hotel, Istanbul, Turkey http://www.srdc.metu.edu.tr/webpage/icde/ Data Engineering deals with the use of engineering techniques and methodologies in the design, development and assessment of information systems for different computing platforms and application environments. The 23rd International Conference on Data Engineering provides a premier forum for sharing and exchanging research and engineering results to problems encountered in today's information society. We especially encourage submissions that make efforts (1) to expose practitioners to how the research results and tools can contribute to their everyday problems in practice and to provide them with an early opportunity to evaluate these tools; (2) to raise awareness in the research community of the problems of practical applications of data engineering and to promote the exchange of data engineering technologies and experience among researchers and practitioners; (3) to identify new issues and directions for future research and development in the data engineering field. ICDE 2007 invites research submissions on all topics related to data engineering, including but not limited to those listed below: 1. Distributed, parallel, P2P and mobile DB's 2. Web Data Management, Web Information Systems 3. Data Warehousing, OLAP, and Statistical Databases 4. Mining Data, Text, and the Web 5. Query processing (standard and adaptive) and query optimization 6. Middleware, workflow, and Web services 7. Security and Privacy 8. Database applications and experiences 9. Stream processing, continuous queries, and sensor DB's 10. Indexing, access methods, data structures 11. Semi-structured data and XML 12. Scientific and Biological DB's and Bioinformatics 13. Temporal, Spatial and Multimedia DB's 14. Data Integration, Interoperability, and Metadata 15. Imprecision, Uncertainty and fuzziness in databases AWARDS An award will be given to the best paper. A separate award will be given to the best student paper. Papers eligible for this award must have a (graduate or undergraduate) student listed as the first and contact author, and the majority of the authors must be students. Such submissions must be marked as student papers at the time of submission. INDUSTRIAL PROGRAM The conference will include an industrial track for high quality papers and presentations on innovative commercial software for all facets of information technology, which include novel applications of database and information retrieval technologies, experiences in applying recent research advances to practical scenarios and innovations in commercial information management software. Industrial track submissions should also be prepared in the 8/5"x11" IEEE camera-ready format, with a 12-page limit, and submitted electronically via the industrial track submissions website. PANELS Panel proposals must include an abstract, an outline of the panel format, and relevant information about the proposed panelists. Send your proposals electronically by the submission deadline to the Panel Chair, Meral Özsoyoglu at . DEMONSTRATIONS Demonstration proposals should focus on new technology advances in applying databases or new techniques. Proposals must be no more than four double-columned pages, and should give a short description of the demonstrated system, explain what is going to be demonstrated, and state the significance of the contribution to database technology, applications or techniques. Send your proposals electronically to the Demonstration Chairs, Jose Blakeley and Mario Nascimento at and . ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY SEMINARS Seminar proposals must include an abstract, an outline, a description of the target audience, duration (1.5 or 3 hours), and a short bio of the presenter(s). Send your proposals electronically to the Seminar Chairs, Karl Aberer and Gültekin Özsoyoglu at and . WORKSHOPS We invite proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with ICDE 2007. We solicit proposals for workshops related to the conference topics. Proposals for workshops should stress how they intend to provide more insight into the proposed topics with respect to the main conference. The scope definition of the proposal should encompass only some of the topics of the main conference. Workshop proposals should be submitted to the workshop chairs, Ahmed Elmagarmid and Fred Lochovsky (at and ) with the title, a description of the topic, and the names of key organizers such as program chair(s). Prior contact with the workshop chairs is encouraged. The organizer(s) of approved workshops will be responsible for advertising their workshops, and for the reviewing process for their workshop's papers, and for the collection of camera-ready copies of accepted papers. SUBMISSION INFORMATION Research papers must be prepared in the 8/5"x11" IEEE camera-ready format, with a 12-page limit, and submitted electronically at http://www.srdc.metu.edu.tr/webpage/icde/. All accepted papers will appear in the Proceedings published by the IEEE Computer Society.
