Methods and Applications of Semantic Indexing Workshop at the 7th International Conference on Terminology and Knowledge Engineering In Copenhagen Denmark, Tuesday 16th August 2005 **************** CALL FOR PAPERS **************** http://wortschatz.uni-leipzig.de/~fwitschel/WS_SemanticIndexing.htm Topic The discussions related to, and developments of, Semantic Web technologies indicate that there is an increasing interest in semantic description and structuring of content. The key applications of the technologies are in the areas information retrieval (e.g. Semantic Web), document abstraction, topic detection, and automatic classification. Here, the term semantic indexing should be understood as an attempt to offer solutions to all problems related to the semantic description of documents, comprising the automatic creation of meta data and semantic mark-ups. This requires new approaches to indexing and abstracting that can greatly benefit from terminological methods, particularly from the area of term extraction. The use of existing terminology resources should also be considered. Therefore, the main focus of the workshop will be to bridge the gap between classic information retrieval and terminological methods in order to improve semantic indexing. We will like to welcome contributions on metadata generation and automatic indexing based either on terminological or information retrieval methods and techniques. We equally encourage contributions in the areas of evaluation and practical applications. Areas of interest We invite submissions of papers and presentations on all kinds of methods or applications related to automatic indexing, terminology extraction and metadata generation, including the following topics: * Advanced indexing techniques like LSI (latent semantic indexing), hierarchical indexing etc. * Methods for metadata generation: term extraction and/or classification approaches * Ideas on semantic mark-up (and, within that area, possibly on information extraction) * Practical experiences with systems that incorporate one of these methods * Evaluation or comparison of one or more of these methods * Any standardization efforts in that area Format for abstract submission Abstracts of papers for oral presentations should consist of 500-700 words and be emailed to witschel@informatik.uni-leipzig.de. They will be reviewed by the workshop's organizing committee. Final papers will have to be completely compliant with TKE guidelines with respect to both formatting and size (please use TKE's Word template and follow any guidelines). See http://uk.cbs.dk/konferencer/tke2005/menu/call_for_papers_workshops for these guidelines. Important Dates * Deadline for abstract submission: 31st March 2005 * Notification of acceptance: 10th April 2005 * Final versions for the proceedings: 25th April 2005 * Workshop day: 16th August 2005 Workshop Attendance and Registration Participants must register for TKE at http://uk.cbs.dk/konferencer/tke2005/menu/registration_accomodation Organizing Committee Khurshid Ahmad, University of Surrey, UK Gerhard Heyer, University of Leipzig, Germany Antonius van Hoof, University of cooperative education Horb, Germany Henryk Rybinski, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland Lone Bo Sisseck, University of Copenhagen, Denmark Hans Friedrich Witschel, University of Leipzig, Germany -- DSL Komplett von GMX +++ Supergünstig und stressfrei einsteigen!
