NAIC-97 Call for Papers & Demonstrations Ninth Dutch Artificial Intelligence Conference Antwerp (Universitaire Instelling Antwerpen) November 12 & 13, 1997 GENERAL The Ninth Dutch conference on Artificial Intelligence (NAIC-97) - co-organised by Bolesian BV/NV and the Universitaire Instelling Antwerpen and supervised by the Dutch AI association NVKI - will be held in Antwerp on November 12th and 13th 1997. In the light of the planned integration of the Dutch and Belgian AI associations, the conference is becoming a joint Dutch/Belgian organisation. Previous NAIC conference have concentrated on the state the art of AI research in the Netherlands and in Flanders. By no means NAIC-97 will lose its eye for state of the art scientific work. As in the past, the NAIC conference is looking for recent research results in all domains of the Artificial Intelligence field. This implies in the first place all traditional domains of AI research such as natural language processing, machine learning, knowledge representation, planning, etc. We further want to encourage authors in particular to submit papers dealing with current hot items in the AI field (e.g. intelligent agents, ontologies) or topics that are pushing the market nowadays (e.g. knowledge based systems, natural language processing, knowledge management). Besides the scientific point of view, the NAIC-97 conference puts a second perspective on Artificial Intelligence in the spotlight. NAIC-97 is hoping to present interesting, innovative or successful applications of AI technology. As such, the conference aims at becoming a forum where Artificial Intelligence research and applications meet and can enter a fruitfull dialogue. More specifically, we hope that this conference will highlight the progress from scientific results to technological advance to innovatiove applications. This call is a dual call. It is a Call for Papers and a Call for Demonstrations. Hereby the organisers want to invite speakers who find their work more easy to explain via a system demonstration rather than via a written paper/oral presentation to profit from this occasion. It is not the organisers' intention to group all of the scientific contributions under the heading 'paper presentations' and all of the applied contributions under the heading 'demonstrations'. However, it is the organisers' hope to obtain mixed sessions with scientific and applied contributions. SUBMISSIONS The preferred language for submissions is English, although also papers in Dutch or in French are acceptable. As in the past, also papers that have been submitted, accepted or recently published elsewhere are acceptable. For that reason, authors keep the copyright of their submission. + Papers The maximal size of submitted papers is 10 A4 pages (margins 2 cm, 12 points Times Roman). Further layout instructions will be given after acceptance. Submitted papers will be reviewed by at least two external reviewers. Five copies of the papers have to be submitted to the NAIC secretary at the following address: NAIC-97 p.a. Bolesian B.V. Steenovenweg 19 5708 HN Helmond The Netherlands Papers may also be submitted electronically - in MS-Word (preferred) or plain LaTeX format at the following email address naic@bolesian.nl >>>> Submission deadline for papers is June 15th 1997. <<<< + Demonstrations Demonstrations will be evaluated based upon submitted demonstration summaries. These are one or two page descriptions of the demonstration, which must at least mention: the purpose of the demonstrated system, the user group(s), the organisation for whom it is developed, the developers, and the technology which was used. It is useful to mention separately also the system requirements, and the optimal duration of the demonstration (which should not exceed 30 minutes). Submitted demonstration summaries will be reviewed by two external reviewers. Four copies of the demonstration summary have to be submitted to the NAIC secretary at the following address: NAIC-97 p.a. Bolesian B.V. Steenovenweg 19 5708 HN Helmond The Netherlands Demonstration summaries may also be submitted electronically - in MS-Word (preferred) or plain LaTeX format at the following email address naic@bolesian.nl >>>> Submission deadline for demonstrations is July 15th 1997. <<<< ORGANISATION The conference is a joint organisation of Bolesian BV/NV and the Universitaire Instelling Antwerpen, (UIA) and is supervised by the Dutch AI association Nederlandse Vereniging voor Kunstmatige Intelligentie (NVKI). + Organising Committee Jan Smulders (Bolesian) - co-chair Steven Gillis (UIA) - co-chair Renee Jonckers (Bolesian) Esther Shiffer (Bolesian) Masja Kempen (UIA) + Preliminary Programme Committee (Not all programme committee members have already formally accepted) W.
