Workshop on Text Information Retrieval: Soft computing and ecological aspects Aim and Scope Text information retrieval is a communication process by which users of an information system or device look for documents or records that meet their needs or interests. Computers provide retrieval information facilities when we face a huge of information, as that contained in the Web. In this area, descriptive information often is incomplete or imprecise. To face this problem, several methodologies, general labelled as "soft computing", have been defined based on the computation of the significance degrees of the terms in documents or on the importance of each term of the query. Soft computing provides flexibility algorithms for ranking responses on the basis of the documents relevance. So, from a practical point of view, it contributes to make better search engines. The Web consists of pages that are connected to each other through hyperlinks. The way the pages link to each other creates or induces a structure. The discovery of regularities on how information is stored and linked within the Web show how individuals use it and how people interact in a massive scale when foraging for information in this new medium. From a practical perspective, to know the properties of the Web agents can contribute to improve search strategies. So, in this Workshop we will try to discuss some of the hot topics about soft computing and ecological aspects of Text Information Retrieval, with special focus on the Web. ===================================================================== Agenda (tentative): Workshop on Text Information Retrieval: Soft computing and ecological aspects June, 8-10 2005 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 1: Models for representing soft information 9:15- 9:30 Presentation 9:30-10:30 Conference: E.
