Workshop on Words and Automata http://math.usu.edu.ru/kadm/wowa.html to be held in St Petersburg (Russia) on June 7th, 2006, as a satellite workshop to the International Computer Science Symposium in Russia (CSR'06). The year 2006 is special both for the theory of automata and combinatorics of words: it is marked by the centennial of Thue's paper "Ueber unendliche Zeichenreihen" and the 50th anniversary of Kleene's paper "Representations of events in nerve nets and finite automata". In a certain sense, one can speak about the 100th birthday of combinatorics on words and the 50th birthday of automata theory. To celebrate these remarkable anniversaries within the CSR'06, we have proposed to organize on June 7, 2006, a one-day workshop devoted to words, automata and various aspects of their interaction. IMPORTANT DATES: SUBMISSION DEADLINE: January 16th, 2006 NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE: February 20th, 2006 FINAL PAPERS: May 15th, 2006 THE PROCEEDINGS in electronic format will be distributed to all participants of the workshop. It is planned that extended versions of original papers will be published in a special issue of a journal. Simultaneous submission to a journal or another conferences is allowed. Simultaneous submissions to the workshop and to CSR'06 are allowed with the understanding that if the paper is accepted to CSR'06 then the paper will have to be withdrawn from the workshop. We invite you to send an extended abstract (up to 10 pages in 11 pt) to Mikhail.Volkov@usu.ru. Use the standard LaTeX article class. The workshop organizers: Anna Frid, Juhani Karhum"aki, Mikhail Volkov
