The Document List window is used to: o View in "brief" format the top-ranked documents returned in response to the search. o Request the display of a document in "full" format o Initiate a feedback session o During a feedback session, control which documents are being displayed based on the user's judgements as to their relevance. o During a feedback session, - ask for suggested additional query terms based on relevance feedback. - end a feedback session o Make the Document List window taller in order to see more documents (at the cost of not being able to see the query) o Page up and down through the list of documents As the result of performing a search, the document list window is filled with a list of the documents ranked from top to bottom in order of decreasing relevance to the query. An area is devoted to each document. The server defines what information is included in the "brief" format. PRISE includes the following data for each document: o The sequence number of the document within the current search result set. "1" marks the document ranked most relevant to the query. "*" marks documents displayed because they have been marked relevant, even though they were found by a search other than the most recent one. o The TREC document identifier o The document title if available o The size of the full document in characters (bytes) o A bracketed list of query terms which when normalized matched one or more normalized document terms. Normalization involves removing endings so that e.g., singular/plural distinctions don't prevent a match. For a document not in the current result set, i.e., one with an asterisk instead of a sequence number, the terms come from the earlier query that produced the result set which DID include the document. To request the display of a document in "full" format: Doubleclick on the line containing the brief document information. The zclient displays the selected document in full format in the document window and changes the color of the brief document information for the selected document to indicate which document is being displayed in full. During a feedback session, if the documents relevance indicator is blank, it will be set to "undecided". To initiate a feedback session: Click on the rectangle (the feedback indicator) to the left of the brief document information and mark a document relevant. To control which documents are displayed based on their relevance: Click on the "View" menu item and then click on one or more of the check boxes labelled "Show documents judged relevant" "Show documents judged irrelevant" to include or exclude documents with the given judgements in the Document List window. The view of the document list will then be updated to reflect the selection(s). To ask for suggested additional query terms based on relevance feedback: Click on the "Feedback" menu item and then click on "Show additional query terms". The Enhanced Query Terms window will appear with a list of candidate query terms chosen based on the current feedback information. To end a feedback session: Click on the "Feedback" menu item and then click on "End feedback session". Information about relevance judgements will be cleared. To make the Document List window taller in order to see more documents: Click on "Taller" Clicking on "Shorter" restores the window to its original size. To page up and down through the list of documents Click on "PgUp" or "PgDn" (Z39.50/PRISE uses only mouse button 1 (normally the left button), with one exception. Clicking mouse button 2 on a title will bring the title to the top of the window if there are enough titles below to allow the scrolling. This maybe helpful if paging results in the partial display of a title.)
